lama sudah tak menulis sini. i had some photos and review about makan2 place in Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam. Went there in February with who else? normi la.. :)
anyway, we were there for 4d3n. because the trip was really short, we could only try 3 restaurants.. :( alas the restaurants were not disappointments... we had good food :)
Vn Halal
Location: 14 Pham Hong Thai, P. Ben Thanh, in District 1
We frequented this restaurant more than the others because it's really near to our hotel. We stayed at Saigon Pink 2 Hotel, which was 5 minutes away. so it really doesn't make sense if we go all the way to other restaurants just to have a bite to eat.
Despite what I hear from others, I like the food here. It's expensive but then all halal outlets overseas are expensive. I didn't try the Malaysian food they offered. I think Normi did.. she tried the fried rice.. I finally had the Vietnamese famous dish called Phở and it's delicious! They put all kinds of ulam in it and i wasn't even sure what they were hehe...
Also had their iced coffee and it's soooo good.. i now regret not making time to get some coffee from benh tanh market :(
seafood soup and the beef Phở and also coffee are must haves.. :)
Halal@Saigon
Location: 31 Dong Du, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, (opposite mosque)
This outlet is actually owned by a Malaysian lady who's a pharmacist. So if you can't live without your asam pedas ikan pari, by all means go here. It's a much more comfortable restaurant, the decorations are prettier and price about the same but their serving size is smaller. It's nice coz when we're there the waiter couldn't stop talking in Malay. Yup.. he's Vietnamese but he worked in Perak for such a long time I guess he just speaks in Malay whenever there are Malaysian guests .. hehe...
I tried the beef Phở again. I know.. I can't stop. they taste soooo good. I wish I know how to make 'em.. and also the ever so popular Vietnamese spring rolls. They're different from Malaysian spring rolls or the chinese egg rolls... Inside the spring rolls there's chicken, the ulam and also get this.. bihun hehe :) nice. eaten with peanut sauce (kuah satay) .. it's perfection!
Restaurant at the Mosque
Location: the Jemia mosque /Central Mosque (Ground floor) - opposite Halal@Saigon
The Indian Jamia Mosque, built in 1935, is one of the largest and most prominent places of worship in town, and surrounding it are a concentration of halal eateries, including the well-known curry restaurant on the grounds of the mosque itself (profiled in last July’s AsiaLIFE).

Ok I didn't know when I went there. Izwar told us to go there.. and we did. and we're not disappointed. The food was heavenly. I like the way Izwar described the food,"Indian food but it tastes like your mum cooks it". and he's sooooo right. we missed home as soon as we're done. luckily it's our last day there.. so no worries. hehe
there i hope these will be much help to you finding halal food in saigon. i hope to go again and go to other restaurants pulak..
