Secret Recipe: New On the Menu
No secret that I just adore Secret Recipe. Only 2 postings ago, and I am already on it again. But this time it's good because they have just introduced a new recipe! It is called the "Stewed Aussie's Beef Steak".. darn it, the name made my mouth waters.. hehee..
i didn't bring my camera. only had my camera phone. i didn't even intend to eat here. i had a sweet tooth and longed for some cheese cake. mm.. then i saw the new menu. and the rest is history.
went to the one in Putrajaya Precint 14.
The stewed steak was tender, and the gravy was just great. it didn't have as much black pepper which other steak joints usually have, just the way i like it. i can't stand black pepper. it's a perfect dinner. i just wish i didn't get the pepsi light. should have gone for my usual apple green drink instead. i had dinner alone, but then it's a small restaurant. and i didn't really feel alone. plus i had facebook mobile with me the whole time (read: LOSER! kekeke) all in all it was a joyful experience.. hmm :P the only other complain i had would probably be the veges that came with the stewed steak.. they had the snap peas on the photo in the menu.. and they only gave carrots and cauliflowers in my plate. :( pentipusss..

i was too shy to eat the cheesecake there so i took it home with me. raspberry cheesecake. perfect way to end my dinner :D

Ani Sup Utara, Putrajaya
it's been 3 months! well i've been taking photos but not of food :( haven't been eating out lately because i haven't been eating at nice places.. and when I finally do, mm.. i forgot to take them photos huhuhu..
anyway, sesuai with ramadan, it's food time.
went to this restaurant called Ani Sup Utara. I know there's a branch at Shah Alam.. not sure if there are other branches. The place looked really nice. first went there to have some soup because I've been coughing like mad.. the second time I was there I went to my family for my mum's birthday. ye la i know.. cheap.. but mum is not much of an eater.. and it's really late afternoon. She likes nice ambient and doesn't appreciate heavy traffic. I immediately thought of Ani Sup Utara.. It's a bit hot, but soup was nice and simple and I'm sure mama doesn't mind, however much she complained.
the soup was decent though a bit pricey.. i guess the aircond yang menghala ke staff tu mahal kot.. service was fast. but the third time i was there, with kak ina and kak ida, they overcharged our drinks. hampeh. but kak ina dah mintak duit balik.. there was a bar inside the restaurant, dunno what was the purpose. coz the kitchen was at the back. there were too little seats.. so we had to wait twice i was there. i prefer to go at night coz we get to sit outside the restaurant and enjoy the breeze.. much more romantic eating out. :)
they serve, mostly soup.. some combos with rice, and telur masin. mama thought they should have given the customers a choice of ikan asin with telur asin. i don't care coz i love both, but mama was right. not everyone eats telur asin. soto and nasi ayam are also in the menu. food wise.. memang sedap.. cuma tak cukup la.. hahaha
anyway, here are some photos..

Secret Recipe..
i love eating at secret recipe, period. it has a nice ambient, a long menu of delicious food and i love the apple kasturi. yummy. the green concoction of apple juice and lime juice plus the asam boi.. oh la la.. i'm in heaven. i just had some on saturday with dr. mojo jojo. thank you, dear :) muahhsss... but i didn't take any photos then. i took some photos when jon, nana and i went out on a sunny sunday to get my SB600 and we had a late lunch at secret recipe amcorp mall.
nana ordered the fish and chips, jon ordered the tiny burgers while i ordered the chicken lasagna(it was on sale and i've used up my April's pay for the stupid flash). nana also ordered the carrot cake.. and it was delicious. i love the creamy cream cheese topping, and the cake is moist, unlike the one at starbucks. seriously, the one i had at starbucks KK was terrible and really dry :(
that green stuff behind the carrot cake is the apple kasturi. mm.. yummy.. could wake you up in a second, can ask dr. mojo jojo about it. unfortunately i didn't have a camera with me when i had lunch with him, his expression was priceless.. hahahaha..
sorry dear ;)
jon ordered the kid's burger. ok first, there are 4 tiny burgers.. cute little burgers. i actually had this for lunch with dr. mojo jojo and i thought that this is too much for a kid. perhaps this meal was meant to be shared. at first i thought that the burgers would be dry. but they were not. i love the meat patties. 4 tiny burgers are more than enough. especially when coupled with the fries. the fries, i did not fancy. i personally thought, and dr. mojo jojo agreed, that the fries had too much butter, and it felt like eating the mashed potato with too much butter. i wish it were more potatoey. :P the ketchup i love.. it tastes better than burger king's ketchup. kekeke.. oh, and what's with the thick cut of cucumber with the burgers? kids could choke to death tau with cucumber that size!
i had chosen this when i was out with the girls. and the lasagna was really good. at first glance i thought the mozza cheese was a bit much but the sauce was a lot too so that balanced it out. caution though, i burned my tongue coz the dish was really hot! but i loved every bite and serving it with a bread was a good idea because the tomato sauce was to die for. i love the sauce, which kinda explains why i simply love secret recipe's meatball spaghetti.. hehehe...
i didn't take nana's fish and chips photos. i was too hungry to take more photos.. and nana was hungry too as she had started eating as soon as they came.

JM Briyani Subang Jaya
whoa how long has it been since i last did a review eh? hahaha.. hi!!! i'm back! i missed writing about food :)
anyway, one day i was craving for mi bandung. so as soon as i reached home, i called nana, my partner-in-crime, to book her for the nite and asked her where to have the best or at least tastes like mi bandung :D she didn't know. but she remembered JM Briyani had mi rebus or something. and i said ... ok la. it's close enough. so she called jon and jon's joining us later for some dinner as well ;)
i left home at about 8. i live in putrajaya now so it took me about 1/2 hour to reach nana's. picked her up and reached JM Briyani at about 8:50pm.
as i reached for the menu, nana already spotted the mi bandung! yeay! they've got mi bandung everyone. so i ordered mi bandung (bandung noodles?) and tauhu sumbat (fried tofu filled with some vegetables julienned (some people put carrots, cucumber, jicama and even bean sprouts - all the veggies that i love) eaten with yummy peanut sauce. nana ordered some rojak petis (fruit salad eaten with peanut sauce) and briyani with fried chicken and some curry. jon ordered murtabak.. it's prata with meat and egg fillings.. oh la la.. :D

Briyani
Ayam Goreng Berempah / Fried Chicken
Tauhu Sumbat/ Fried tofu filled with veggies served with peanut sauce
Mi Bandung/ Bandung Noodles
the noodles is not bad.. they used too much dried shrimps instead of real shrimps in making the gravy. but the taste is there. enough to satisfy my cravings for mi bandung. if you'd like the real one then you'd have to drive all the way to Muar, Johor.. hehehe ... now that's where you can get the real deal ;) the tauhu sumbat... omg! it's so heavenly! i love it! only thing is that they use too much onions in their sauces and gravies that i can taste the onion in my mouth when eating the dishes. i love the tofus cause they took out the insides of the tofu, leaving the skins and deep fried them and then put in the veggies so the juices from the veggies don't affect the tofu.. and so it's not soggy and it's not messy.. the rice is ok la.. i've tasted better briyanis.. the chicken is quite hard cause they fried it ... nana can't finish her chicken even though jon helped her. jon's murtabak is really nice. however they didn't heat the murtabak evenly, i guess they used the microwave to heat it, so it feels like eating yesterday's murtabak.. kekekee... ala2 makan getah gitu. but the taste is ok :) we finished it! rojak petis was ok.. but again it's the peanut sauce .. i dunno.. dun fancy it much :(
i love the ambience. the restaurant took 2 shop lots at subang. one is the open air type.. the other is a new airconditioned room. we chose to sit in the air-cond restaurant. the lighting was perfect for my photos, the presentation of the food was excellent. the staff are very nice and friendly. perhaps cause we were teasing them since we sat. :P service was quite fast. i mean with all the food that we've ordered... heeheheeh it'll take hours to serve us in a normal restaurant. i guess JM Briyyani is trying to go into the fast food market? heheh cool :) the toilet is clean. the restaurant is clean.
out of 10 i'd give it an 8. i don't mind going back. :)

miri specials: other places..
another cafe that fahmi took me to for dinner in miri was cafenika.. i guess cause the table we chose was outside the cafe, the lighting was not so good.. and i didn't really get to enjoy the food as much. i have to see what i eat.. so?
anyway, i ordered the nasi ayam with roasted chicken and salad. i thought it'd be like the typical nasi ayam with the actual salad.. but rupanya jauh panggang dari api. the chicken was nice tho.. no argue there.. but they served it with coleslaw.. and they don't even serve soup with it.. :( i was hungry so, i ate them anyway.. looks nice tho.. ain't it?
when fahmi had a meeting in kuala belait, brunei.. he took me with him. i don't mind the wait.. but he was really concerned. at first i wanted to lepak at the surau, but i intended to watch the people and listen to their conversations, try to catch some of the phrases they normally use.. and see what they eat mainly. so, i just sat at a corner in the cafeteria. fahmi even gave me 20 dollars so i don't starve...
miri specials: idaman cafe
there's another cafe around saberkas we frequented.. idaman cafe. the service was damn slow! the waiters are clueless.. and they refuse to have eye contact with the customer.. but there're many people that went there.. so, the food should be good right? not really.. hehe
fahmi ordered the kueyteow tomyam tulang. weird combo. but the tomyam was really nice. i'd never thought of having tomyam tulang.. but they served it here.. and at 7 ringgit a bowl it should be nice! taste not bad.. fahmi likes it. the tomyam was ok lah..
the laksa sarawak i had here at idaman was really different from the one at sabrina corner. the gravy was heavily spiced. not really my cup of tea but after a while it was ok la kot.. when u're not really thinking of it.. emm... the one at sabrina was really light. i kinda preferred that.
i really dig the limau laici drink they served. forgot to take photos of it. it's really that good.. i think i'd like to try make it at home.
another night we came to the restaurant, we ordered seafood tomyam, udang goreng kunyit and baby kailan ikan masin with white rice.. but they took forever to serve the food.. and the waiter screwed our order up. instead of tomyam, it was sup seafood... which tasted horrendous.. and instead of udang goreng kunyit, it was udang goreng tepung. luckily the udang goreng tepung was nice.. i ate most of it.. heheh.. sapa suruh fahmi makan nasi dulu without waiting for the udang? haha... and i ended up with an allergy attack the next day.. boo hoo.. no photos of the screwed up order, cause we were both starving when the food finally arrived..
overall, if u're starved, or even hungry, don't ever come here.. but the drinks are nice.. especially the iceblends..

miri specials: sabrina corner
this restaurant, is somewhat ermm.. uninviting. the deco wasn't really nice.. there's a buffet table in the middle of the restaurant and the buffet table were mounted by old magazines. i have no idea why they're there.. went there on the third day of my stay. fahmi took me there for brunch.. sort of.
i ordered the kueyteow goreng style penang (fried kueyteow penang style). i was under the impression that i ordered the char kueyteow. hehehe.. yeah right. it kinda looked like the kueyteow ladna (i think). it really reminds me of the mi goreng basah that rofi ordered when we were in tawau. sumthing like that laarr..

this fried kueyteow was fried with soy sauce and baby clams. it was weird, but it tasted nice.. and i finished it. go figure.. :P
then there's one night, we had dinner there, and fahmi had to order the nasi goreng ayam and sup tulang. the sup tulang was nice.. and the tulang was errmm.. fresh. but the nasi goreng ayam was different. usually the chicken would be obvious. i tried the laksa sarawak special. yummy.. :D and their air tiga assam. the air tiga assam is actually a mix of lemon, lime and asam boi juice. tasted like lime juice.. hehehe..

miri specials
just came back from miri last night. i'm still tired, but don't really feel like sleeping just yet.. can't wait to write about the restaurants i frequented at miri during my stay there. went there for 7 days and 6 nights.. i know i know.. a long time to actually try everything.. but ok.. truth behold, i have to be careful of what i eat.. since i'm dieting and all.. yeah, ok, i'll do this by restaurants..

Sawadeeekaappp.... Chiang Mai Special 4
Cafe De Siam..
Located just around the corner from Imperial Mae Ping, Cafe De Siam became our "bus stop" during our stay in Chiang Mai. It's actually a coffee house, and the interior decor sort of reminds me of star bucks and delifrance. it's not overly crowded, and everytime we went there, we could only see foreigners frequenting the outlet. the coffee was good. i especially recommend their siam coffee shake. it's really delicious. it doesn't have that awful after taste. it's really nice.
price wise it's kinda expensive. service was good.. well depending on who's waiting your table. cause it can be slow. we missed the bus on the second day cause the server took a long time getting our bill. but they were nice. it's all that matters especially after a really long walk and your feet really hurt and you need to just relax.
i didn't try the sandwiches.. often too full from lunches or dinners.. but i did try the mocha cake. i think they put the cake in the fridge for too long, the cream hardened. otherwise the cake was very kind to my taste buds. fabulous! no wonder i developed the extra two tires when i came back from chiang mai.
for the ambience, the service and the best coffee and milk shakes, i'd give 2 thumbs up.
Camera... action.. take 2.. huhu... penat... that's me drinking the siam coffee shake.
That's blueberry banana milk shake.. loved it.. too bad i had it on the last day.. would have gotten it everyday.. if only i knew it was that good.. :P (tu yang bertambah berat sekilo tu)
normi's drinking her favorite drink at cafe de siam.. iced chocolate. it's iced chocolate three days in a row.. :P

Sawadeeekaaapppp... Chiang Mai Special 3
our third restaurant would be el-ruammit. it's right next to arabia
restaurant in the anusarn market. opposite of asma. so, if you'd like to have good halal food, just go to anusarn and find these restaurants. they are in the center of the bazaar.
el-ruammit or honey chicken barbeque restaurant is a small restaurant that sells thai/chinese halal food. actually a malaysian family told us that they had dinner at el-ruammit but the fish was kinda smelly. we ordered fish but we asked the fish to be fried with garlic.. boy it was delicious.
we had a big stomach.. i mean a big feast that night. and we finished it all. . we ordered fried fish with garlic, fried chicken with chilli, broccoli with shrimp, seafood tomyam, kerabu sotong, to be eaten with plain rice. we each order iced lychee and iced longan and they only cost us 225
Baht. hehee.. the fish was perfectly fried. it didn't smell fishy at all, but the seafood tomyum was kinda sweet. and they put fish in the tomyum, not to my liking. i kinda regret it that i didn't ask for the honey bbq chicken, must've been good since they are called that. but there's always next visit right? minta2 la ek?
the location was perfect, it's about 3 blocks from the mosque, and right in the middle of anusarn. can always take the tuk tuk there. or you can always walk if u're staying at the night bazaar.

sawadeekaaapp... Chiang Mai Special 2
the next restaurant in my chiang mai special is a punjabi restaurant. it's down the street from imperial mae ping. i'm not sure what's the name of the street. but it's right next to wat chang kung. there were big signs leading to it.. halal restaurant that way.. halal restaurant this way..
i ordered yellow rice and chicken with chilli, while normi had plain rice with chicken masala. we also ordered vegetable pakora. thought it would be fried vegetables, cause the description sort of gave us that idea. turned out it was jemput-jemput sayur. cehh... looked over-fried and the sauce was not good at all. the only good thing about it was that we were hungry and the food was edible.
alhamdulillah... for 260 Baht, i think asma restaurant was way better.. two thumbs down lah..
anyway, the restaurant was quite.. we thought it was because it's not meal time just yet. when we arrived a punjab woman greeted us. convinced that she can provide us with halal meals, we sat down and ordered.
yellow rice and my chicken in chilli,
normi's masala and white rice and some vege pakora

sawadeekaaappp... Chiang Mai special..
i'm gonna do it differently this entry.. not gonna tell about makan place in bangi.. instead, i'll highlight the halal restaurants we went to during our visit to chiang mai, thailand..
asma restaurant..
location: behind the peak center in anusarn night bazaar.
rating:
we had bombay briyani, normi and i. it's actually a chicken briyani + potato. we also had mutton curry with it. normi asked for plain water and i opted for mango lassi..

they cost 225 baht, which was about RM22.50. quite an expensive deal for briyani. but we were starving, and we had plenty of baht cash at that moment of time. so, no biggie.
the mutton curry was delicious. but the service was kinda awful for me. i guess when you have to pay that much for a lousy briyani and curry, you're expecting more from the waiter. so i only left them 5 baht for tips. hehe.. ok la tu got tips. the waiter was kinda rude when we asked what's their speciality.. but they were fast. kudos for that.

Sri Kemudi, BB Bangi Seksyen 7
Finally.. an update! it's been a while since i last updated this blog.. i haven't been eating out as much lately.. the oil price hike and the fact that i'm actually watching my weight seem to be good enough a reason. anyway, this morning, since the cafe operator is again changing (it's not even a year yet..their reasons were too spooky to discuss in this cute blog.. so, i'll just leave it to your imagination), nomie and i went out for breakfast. my mission was to get me some roti canai. headed to section 7 in Bandar Baru Bangi to eat (it's right in front of PKNS). chose to eat at sri kemudi.. i think that's what it says on the sign board anyway.. can't really read the sign while driving.. they used cursive for their signboard. anyway, i referred to it as the kedai low-profile. ate there once or twice for dinner.. not some hot spot in bangi .. not like the other restaurants in that area anyway.. the tv is a mere 21" tv.. not a favorite hangout for the kaki bola.. and no bright lights.. but the restaurant is always full..of boys. thought there would be cute waitress or something.. but didn't see any cute girls there.. except me of course. haha. cute boys ada lahh.. err.. the waiter is adorable. i think he must be the owner's son or something. cause the restaurant seemed to be a family operated restaurant or watchamacallit... anyways, like i always say to ali when we're on the road, a full restaurant is always a good restaurant. and it's true for this particular restaurant. good food.. simple recipes. even the menu is relatively simple. no special names for their drinks or nasi goreng.. not many items on the menu.. but they taste good. and it's all that matters.. and the portion is quite big. so, worth the money. but that's last year.. haven't been to the restaurant for ages.. and this morning, went there with nomie.
the morning menu is quite a variety. they have nasi kerabu, laksam, roti canai, nasi goreng, nasi lemak, nasi himpit with kuah kacang and lontong, mi goreng, bihun goreng.. just to name a few.. no wonder the restaurant is full at 8 am on a saturday. well looking at the food, made me starving, so i got myself a nasi kerabu with ayam goreng.. tak pe la.. can work out later what?? hehehe... and an iced tea. sedap.. but the price.. whoa.. very expensive.. luckily i brought my wallet and not just the purse i always carry for breakfast.. would be embarrassing trying to pay with coins.
This particular set, costs me RM4.50. actually i think price is pretty high since i could get a better deal at putrajaya.. tastes better there too.. this one, ok la.. just price too much!

Restoran Sharifah: Seksyen 8, BBBangi
there's this restaurant in bangi that i'd sometimes go for breakfast. it's in Seksyen 8, Bandar Baru Bangi, and it's called Restoran Sharifah. when they first opened, about 2 years ago, i never thought i'd have anything here. the waiters are not cute enough. the restaurant itself is not lively like other restaurants at the area (read: Restoran Limau Nipis). now i think i prefer the food here. i guess the taste somewhat reminds me of home. i especially love their milo ais, because it's really thick milo, not the typical very cair and tawar milo served in most tomyam restaurants. i don't typically have other meals here.. but i love the variety of food they serve during breakfast, but i'd normally go for their roti or nasi lemak.. heheh.. it's not very pricey. the service is lousy but the food is boleh tahan. i'd give it a 3 star out of 5. :)
nasi lemak paru... yummy..
nescafe 'o ais
roti kosong.. the kuah dhal is so sedap.. sehingga menjilat jari..

UNITEN Food Court: Izzat Corner
one of the places i often go for breakfast is izzat corner at UNITEN food court. why? 1. convenience, 2. food selection 3. service 4. the bihun sup is to die for and finally 5. it's the nearest place with parking lot that serves roti canai.
almost every morning normi, kak ina and i would take turns driving to the food court which is about 1 km away. i think it's not even 1 km, unless u drive around the roundabout a few times and you count the mileage to get back to the office. nevertheless we still drive ourselves there. hehehe.. no wonder i gain more weight the past year. :(
usually i'd order the roti kosong and teh ais. its teh tarik is very sweet, much to my liking. normi hates it tho. she prefers nescafe ais or neslo ais, paired with roti kosong. other times, bihun sup, nasi lemak + rendang daging/sambal kerang, roti tampal and roti planta would be our choices.
price wise pun ok. this is probably due to the fact that their main customers are UNITEN students. there are also other stalls there.. only i seldom go to the other stalls. they don't know me enough. hahaha.. besides i'm already considered a regular at izzat.. proof? emm.. they can list down all the menu that i'd normally get... hehe..

Rasa Alamanda, Putrajaya II
I haven't been able to eat at many places the past few months cause been skipping lunch or have really late lunches lately. Tons of work to do larr.. not diet arrr...
Anyway, last Friday had a trip to Alamanda for lunch. I was really tired of having lunch at the fast food chains, so I took my friends for lunch at Rasa, Alamanda... yepp.. again.. There are so many stalls to try.. Since last time, the three of us, Nomie, Kak Ina and I, had lunch at the Kelantan and Noodles stall, this time we tried different stalls, and dishes.
Nomie opted for curry noodles at the noodles stall next to the nasi kandar stall. Kak Ina had mee hoon sup from the same stall. (I think last time, kak ina had bakso from the other noodle stall..) While yours truly bought nasi lemak from the.. you guessed it...nasi lemak stall. The curry noodle was awful, according to nomie. the kuah was really cair.. the isi lautan kurang sedap.. I believe, mon warned me about the curry noodles.. kak ina's mee hoon soup was ok. But she finished it up, maybe it's good la jugak...My nasi lemak was delicious. I had the nasi lemak + ayam rendang.. for RM4.50. It's two thumbs up from me.. I also had Mango juice priced at RM3.90, it's worth every sen. :)
lousy mi kari
so-so mihun sup
big glass mango juice.. RM3.90
nasi lemak + rendang ayam.. RM4.50

happy birthday miji...
hehehe... happy birthday cik ahmad... wishing you and ct and baby imran well till years to come. we celebrated over lunch. couldn't get hold of nomie, just the two of us, cik ahmad and me. we had lunch at san fancisco pizza. it's a really nice place. price wise ok. i like the smell of the restaurant, smells like pizza. hehehe... we ordered a regular pizza.. couldn't recall the name. and i totally forgotten to take photos of the pizza we ordered. but it's one of those chef recommended pizzas, and it's chicken salami, with huge tomatoes and peppers, both red and green, on top. the pizza sauce is really nice. the good thing about SF pizzas is that they are not greasy. the place is actually located at section 7, bb bangi (right in front of billion bangi, near gulai kawah)
there's a variety of different pizzas offered, and pasta. but since the smell of the place was like pizza, i decided to try the pizzas. i told him he could order more, he wouldn't. tak kisah la ek. since it's his birthday and all, i told him to order a slice of cake too... i was still full from breakfast.. he ordered a marbled cheese cake. i asked the waiter to also put a candle as today's cik ahmad's birthday. hehehhe... poor guy was embarrased. but since i insisted, cik ahmad had to oblige.

blushing cik ahmad
the beverages not bad. i had the lime special.. a concoction of sprite, lime juice and asam boi. delicious! cik ahmad got himself a strawberry shake or something.

Our drinks
price wise.... i don't think i can afford to eat there every day. the ambience, the services and the food are worth every penny you're spending there. the cheesecake.. you should try it! it's really nice and hard, but you put it in your mouth, the cheese cake just melts away. in fact, the best cheese cake i ever had. the pizza is ok... the service is great. they served us coffee on the house just for celebrating cik ahmad's birthday there. even tho we didn't order much. i love the lime juice... i was stunned at first.... didn't expect the sprite to be added, but it actually gave a nice sweet taste to the sour lime and asam boi.
overall it's a nice experience. for that i give 2 thumbs up. :)

the marbled cheese cake that drove us crazy.. hehehe
